Why Stay for the School Anthems?
August 31st, 2010 by Edge
If your school/team wins, you should stay for the school anthem,
- To show HUMILITY DESPITE the SUCCESS
- To ACKNOWLEDGE THE other team’s EFFORT, that it was a great game
- To let the athletes know that THEY DID A GREAT JOB, and YOU’RE PROUD OF THEM
- To share the win and BE PART OF THE TEAM
If YOUR school/team loses, you should stay for the school anthem,
- To show HUMILITY IN face of DEFEAT
- To ACKNOWLEDGE, “the other team’s WIN,” that it was a great game
- To let the athletes know that THEY STILL DID A GREAT JOB, and YOU’RE STILL PROUD OF THEM
- To share the loss and BE PART OF THE TEAM
Regardless of a game’s outcome, you should stay for the school anthem,
- To COMMEND ALL ATHLETES who fought for their alma mater
If it weren’t for them, you wouldn’t be there at all.
- TO REPRESENT
This is very self-explanatory.
If these may sound redundant, well they should be. (I honestly don’t get the purpose of that sentence. Haha!). Because all these can be summed up in one word, RESPECT.
- To RESPECT (and not just to SHOW respect)
Do consider, respect is given and never taken.
Don’t you feel goose bumps when you sing (regardless of your tone, or your seatmate’s tone) your school anthem in front of everyone, raising a fist as you strike the air (even if it’s not in sync with the rest of the crowd), proud of being part, and taking part, of something bigger than yourself? I know I do, and so do the rest of the crowd that stays for the game’s aftermath.
Sportsmanship is expected, not only from athletes, but also from their audience.
See you at the games! (And after it) ^^
