UAAP: Promoting Unity through Sportsmanship
July 21st, 2009 by tam08aaronThe UAAP Basketball tournament started quite bad for the FEU Tamaraws. Finishing their first game in this season against the defending champions, Ateneo Blue Eagles, they found themselves lacking of powerful attacks and tight defense.
But still, our opponents must be careful, because these morayta-based shooters, were not yet in their true action!
59-63. See how close the fight was? 4 points deficit is too near. This tournament isn’t yet over. Our team still have something to prove: “make a way, to the most coveted crown”. And I have faith on them. I think, they just have to write it down in the book UAAP history, and make an action that would thwart their opponent. It is our time, I do believe.
I watched their first game live. Of course, I came to cheer them up, boost their confidence, and to make the tamaraw spirit felt all over the corners of the big dome. And as expected, the green and gold community, FEU Boosters and Cheering Squad were there to support their beloved teams and idols.
Ateneo did own the lead. That was the time when nervousness took over my emotion. I prayed and hoped that the Tamaraws could win over the Eagles. When I was praying, my heedful eyes gazed on the green and blue crowd , and then, sudden question crossed my mind, “Is winning important?”
I noticed that the crowd’s feelings were arising as the battle continues to become more tighter. And for the second time, I prayed again. But my hope was totally depleted as the last seconds continues to deteriorate, one by one. And they can do nothing, but to let go of this frustrating game and face the approaching battle with enough strength, courage, and with the momentum on their side.
I don’t know why , but its hard for me to accept the fact that we lost against the Eagles. Maybe, I’m just being too pathetic.
The game was over, and frustration conquered the Tamaraw community, including me. However, my fellow tamaraws applauded for the Ateneo players as they were singing their Alma Mater Song . And they as well, applauded the Team which gave them a tough fight-FEU Tamaraws. And that took my depression away. Witnessing my fellow tamaraws praising the winning team made me smiled, and laughed. Then, I said to my self, “This is how this game should really be!” Promoting unity through sportsmanship and respect!
