The Quintessence of a Cultivated Freedom: Setting no Boundaries

    September 26th, 2008 by

Let us start by defining the meaning of freedom to the two main classes of people, those that have formal education, and those who don’t even have a formal schooling. For those people who have a formal schooling, the meaning of freedom may fall under two categories: the freedom to choose and the freedom to speak. As we all know that those who have formal education are definitely greater than those who have less, and I know that many will try to purport this. The freedom to choose (for the formally educated ones), may be their “greatest privilege” because they think they have the qualifications for attaining a much better career. And those who are less educated will find pity for themselves because they don’t have the chance to choose a job that they are aiming for and they feel that they don’t have the privilege to “speak out” themselves. Those that were formally educated will find themselves competitive in every aspects of life.

But the real meaning of freedom is not all about your social status; it’s about using your freedom to choose what’s best for you, and to choose the way how you would live your life. If you were a “formally” educated person and yet you don’t know how to value your life then your education will simply be put in trash, it’s not about how many degrees you attained, how many math solutions you know how to solve, how many English vocabularies you are familiar with, and how many articles on the constitution that you have memorized. But it is enough that you know what is right from wrong.

Being educated is not based on how much you know but how these things be a weapon towards your success. We must also remember that we are not only educated at school, that not only books and other learning materials can help us to learn, because in every day that we live, we experience something that we could get lessons from. Lessons that can teach us things that we couldn’t learn at school.

Every man is different and unique; we have different interests, different views on things, and different ways in dealing to life’s everyday challenges. A man that has never been educated and whom has the knowledge of what is right from wrong will definitely do things that he believes that are “right”. A man that has full knowledge but doesn’t have wisdom will never make use of his knowledge appropriately.

There are actually so many kinds of freedom; there is freedom of speech, freedom to live, and freedom to do the things at your own peril. Having a freedom is having a choice, a choice to do the things at your own will. Being free doesn’t necessarily mean that you have the privilege to do everything that you want; it doesn’t mean that you can do all things freely. Freedom is risky, freedom is deceiving, it can put smile on your lips and it can put tears in your eyes. It can either delight you or frustrate you. It can either free you or confine you. Freedom is indeed an indisputable treasure that we should make wise use of.
