Tams Falter Against Warriors in Second Round
August 24th, 2009 by reichmakayanThe Far Eastern University lost its share of the lead as they suffered their second defeat for the season from the University of the East, 72-87, yesterday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Warriors put up an all out game against the Tamaraws, starting with a 10-22 opening quarter. FEU had a chance to make more breathing space for themselves after an Aldrech Ramos two-pointer at the end of the second quarter, putting the score at 41-45. However, that was the nearest the Tams could get to the Red shirts. UE dismantled the Morayta-based squad in the second half producing a 15-point lead in the third quarter and carrying it into the final canto.
UE had had the upper hand in the field goal percentage both in the two and three areas, making a 59.2% and 35.7% compared to FEU’s 33.8% in the shaded lane and 18.5% from beyond the arc. The Tamaraws only had three steals and was not able to block throughout the game while the Warriors had six blocks and seven steals. They also turned the ball over more often and had more fouls giving the opposing team more chances at the free throw line.
With the loss, FEU goes down to second spot in the team standings with a 8-2 record. UE is now a third with 6 wins and 4 losses.
