Sisid Rice
May 21st, 2008 by Anthony ApurilloA lot of filipinos right now are very aware of the booming price of commodities, especially Rice. People are starving and thousands more may be at the same situation if the price of rice does not stabilize.
Then came the ever reliable personalities such as leaders, statesman, lawmakers, and others who manage to comment that our situation is under control, while some believe it is the effect of actions done by rice hoarders, smugglers and others other than themselves. If only we utilize properly our HUGE land, and that the moratorium on Land Conversion continues in the next 50 years, and the promotion of works in Agriculture. Then I can halfly say we can solve or even eradicate this matter about the shortage of rice production in the country. If only.
But again we are not as bad as compared in the post WWII era in Manila, where everything was in chaos. The rice shortage in Manila before was different where there were no “rolling stores”. But the ingenuity of Filipinos superseded the rice problem at that time. How? Simple. There were sunk American Battleships that were prevalent in Manila Bay at the time, what the true Filipino geniuses did was to dive under the American ships and get hundreds sacks of rice, which were soaked in salt water for months. I wonder what it taste like-SISID RICE. A.N. APURILLO
