The UE Red Warriors gave the FEU Tamaraws an early taste of playoff basketball and something to ponder going into next week’s Final 4. Without anything on the line except for pride, UE played relentless defense all throughout the game and amassed only nine fouls to win 73-61 against its cross-street rival in the second round matchup in UAAP Season 71. FEU dropped to 10-4 and blew its chance to outright gain at least a playoff for the second twice-to-beat advantage in the semis. UE took advantage of the Morayta-ballers’ tentativeness, making numerous steals to create a big lead in the first quarter, 23-8 and avenge its supposedly controversial loss in the first round.
Benedict Fernandez paced FEU with 16 points, while Andy Barroca, who was hampered with two early fouls finished only with 7 after averaging at least 20 in the last three games.
