    “Punctuality” in the “Filipino Vocabulary”

    June 12th, 2008 by guru_fita2

i have been to many seminars since i was in high school. and well, we all share the same sentiments when it comes to attending these seminars. PUNCTUALITY!

i don’t know but, i think Filipinos are the only people to have this kind of “attitude/mentality”, the thought of, “pa importante”, “hindi nila ako pwede iwanan”, “hindi sila pwede mag umpisa dahil wala ako” and the likes.

FILIPINO TIME IS ALWAYS LATE. i think i have to agree with this. ever since i came here in FEU, only a few seminars i have attended managed to start on time. and i can count them on my fingers.

come to think of it, only in “high class society” where you can find them to be punctual. and i wonder why. but then again, i just had the answers right if front of me the whole time (since time immemorial). maybe, this is because of the fact that we are “used to” being late.

do you remember your elementary days? wherein your teacher comes very late in your class? and you were the ones who even waited for her that your bags are already lined at the corridors awaiting for her arrival because the keys are with her. same with your high school days; wherein your teachers are still having their “chismisan time” even when your class should have started more than 15 minutes ago. also, when some roams along the corridors, they would call to each other (whoever has the intention to have a chit-chat usually is the one who calls first) and spend at least 10 minutes on “nonsenseness”.

a very good example why Filipino’s are very late. we are already trained to be late even when we are still young. and it actually took me more than 12 years to notice this. i have been blinded by my thoughts of how can i be able to give solution to this problem by so many ways. but it just struck suddenly. the reality that our teachers (there exemptions to this of course; and i admire those teachers who spend their class hour with the class and not with other things) are actually the one’s who’s training us to be unpunctual. even in college. and that’s really the sad part.

how PUNCTUALITY can be a major cause of development, i cannot fathom that, but one thing is for sure, PUNCTUALITY IS WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO DEVELOP!

Survival supersedes beliefs, principles, and even morals. The malleability of the latter concepts—that defines character and persona, distinguishes man’s social strata, class and leverage in the society he lives in—against a person’s will to live is explicitly painted in Yann Martel’s Life of Pi. Pi Patel, 16, consistently deals with bashful versions of.. Read more..
