Our neighbor gave us a scare
August 10th, 2010 by PinoyHBefore the game started, I knew that this game will be automatically in our hands. In all aspects, we have all of the advantages against the UST Tigers, From Height, Experience, and Offense. But the Tigers proved me wrong, at least. They gave me a scare since from the start, especially when they had 11-point lead at the first half. Everything’s falling for the Growling Tigers, inside & especially from the outside (which is their main weapon). As I’d said in my previous review, If we able to shutdown their long bombers, Jeric Teng, Jeric Fortuna & Clark Bautista, This game will be automatically in our hands. Yes, they able to shutdown Jeric Fortuna but how about Jeric Teng (Who exploded for 9 points in the 1st Quarter) & Clark Bautista (4/10 from the 3 point area)? Even Mr. Hustle, Chris Camus joined the 3 point parade. That’s the strength of the Tigers, the 3 point shot off the screen. Unfortunately for FEU during the 1st half, the help defense was late so that the Tigers capitalized it. But nonetheless, UST had their meltdown in the 4th quarter and FEU, grabbed that opportunity.
I’m glad that Pipo Noundou played well for the 3 straight games; No Big Tiger can’t stop him from the inside as he almost didn’t miss inside the paint. He also gave me the “LMAO” feeling when he did the ball fake to Aljohn Mariano, reminds me of Tim Duncan who tricks Dikembe Mutombo in one of their NBA Games. Also, Aldrech Ramos got his game at the right time by grabbing those crucial offensive rebounds at the 3rd Quarter. And obviously, RR Garcia led our team again with his 22 point. Damn, no opposing UST Guard can’t slow him down. I hope he continues that kind of game coming from the 2nd round.
If the Tamaraws got their help-defense going during the UST Quarter’s, I think UST will having a hard time to get their offense going. That’s the only flaw that I saw in our game against UST.
On the other side, I salute Chris Camus. He had the heart & will to win. He carries his team due to his hustle plays; too bad for him as his teammates gone cold in the 4th quarter.
Ok! We now swept the 1st round. Good accomplishment for us but it is still far from over. We’ll now enter the 2nd round and I’m sure, every team we beat is aching to get their revenge from us. A piece of advice for the players & the coaches, don’t be complacent. Other teams will make their adjustments to give us our 1st lose. Tomorrow, we will know who will be our 1st opponent in the 2nd round. There are 3 teams battling out for the 2nd place: Ateneo, De La Salle & Adamson. Come to 2nd round, one of them will be our next opponent & those teams gave us a scare. So please, do the adjustments. Review your 1st round games against them, and then remove those previous games’ flaws, especially the turnovers.
I’m happy that FEU swept the 1st round, but be careful. We’re not the Champions yet (Hopefully, we achieved it this year).
Ok, Umpisa na ng round trip! I hope at the end of our FX Trip this season, we’ll say “para” to Manong Driver, when we reached the time; the trophy is on our own hands.
