Not proud
December 19th, 2009 by undercoverFEU students – mostly if not all – are not proud of their alma mater.
Whenever I see or even mingle with students from other universities, I observed that they had one thing in common: they speak with pride of their school. In all of my encounters with them, I have not heard any ill-remarks pertaining to their school. Perhaps, they would not divulge the “dark side” of their beloved alma mater, but in every situation or whenever they will mingle with students from other universities, they would consistently speak all the good things about their school as if saying “we are the best”.
On the other hand, we, FEU students, are the opposite.
I have been studying here in FEU for three years and during that span of time, my observations are the same: FEU students are not proud. I can tell from the faces of most freshmen that they do not really intend to study in FEU or worse, never in their wildest dreams that they consider FEU as their stepping stone for their lucrative career in the future.
A sad truth, indeed. This is the profile of FEU students and this is the main reason why there is lacking of student involvement. There are abundant of student organizations in FEU and they are offering activities that will develop students holistically but why only feu students participate? Is it because they were not informed well? I disagree. Student Council officers and the FEUCSO are exerting all efforts to provide the entire studentry with activities that would make them feel that it is fun to be here in FEU. The officers are sacrificing their time just to prepare their activities for their members as if saying that “our school is not boring”. To sum up, student organizations are doing their duties well and the problem lies with the students alone. FEU students would not join any activities not because they were busy in their academics but simply they do not care at all. Why? It is because they deny that they are part of this institution. They are not proud of their alma mater. To be more precise, they lose hope – that someday FEU would be at par with other universities.
I learned this from our pastor in the church. He said that “When you feel there is no more hope, you stop caring.” Indeed, this is what transpires in most of us. We are losing hope that is why do not care at all.
