No Bull. . . Dog this time
July 19th, 2010 by PinoyHNo Bull… Dog please
Even before the start of the season, I already expected that the NU Bulldogs would play differently from their past seasons. With the arrival of Coach Eric Gonzales & Team Consultant Eric Altamirano, things have changed.
But despite of this change, FEU Tamaraws proved that they are still the team to beat. However, yesterday’s game provided a scare for all Tamaraw supporters but Reil Cervantes & RR Garcia carried FEU with 20 & 18 points, respectively.
As expected, FEU denied NU to give the ball to big man, Emmanuel Mbe, who had a big game against DLSU. FEU limited the Cameroonian with 8 points & 9 rebounds but Kokoy Hermosisima, former Letran Squire Glenn Khobuntin & former RP-youth standout Joseph Terso picked up the slack to keep the Bulldogs in the game. For me, the FEU defenders did their best to stop them but it’s too hard to defend a guy who already found his shooting touch.
I want to give credit to NU Coach Eric Gonzales, by giving NU a “system”. In the previous years, NU easily settled for 3-point shots, and also a “panic-prone” team. This year, NU is different as they are now attacking the basket, and also plays good defense.
This game still belonged to the Tamaraws though not the prettiest of wins. FEU still leads in terms of end-game experience. During NU’s 4th quarter run, I became concerned because their shots were going in and the Tams were not converting their free-throws.
Thank you to the clutch plays of RR Garcia for saving our asses HAHA!
On the other hand, don’t ever dare to belittle NU Bulldogs. With a new system employed by their new coach, I don’t think other UAAP schools will take them lightly again.
