Horns are Mightier than the Claws of the Eagles this time around
July 12th, 2010 by PinoyHAfter almost 2 years, FEU won over Ateneo is the big stage called UAAP.
It was a big victory for the Tamaraws after they beat the back-to-back defending champions earlier yesterday. But this victory was as close one as we expected.
In the first quarter, the Eagles got the early lead because of the efforts of the rookie from San Beda High, Arthur Dela Cruz. Also, just what I expected, Coach Norman Black assigned Kirk Long to defend, RR Garcia, which slowed him down in the early minutes. But FEU made adjustments that kept the game close.
Leading the way for the Tamaraws is RR Garcia with 25 points, including the crucial 3-point play during the crucial minutes of 4th quarter. Paul Sanga, Aldrech Ramos, Reil Cervantes & even Chris Exciminiano also did their contribution. Exciminiano had a very tight defense against the blue team’s Captain, Erik Salamat that limited his offense in the game.
On the other hand, Ateneo had very strong support from their players. Nico Salva, Ryan Buenafe, Kirk Long, Art Dela Cruz & Jason Escueta lead the Eagles in this game. Jason Escueta made a good debut game for Ateneo despite being undersized in his position. At the start, Salamat was expected to lead this team but Exciminiano put the clamps on him.
Despite the win, I’m still waiting for the contributions of JR Cawaling especially on offense. He displayed it during his rookie season but not so much after 2007. He must prove that his critics are wrong. No more “Pa-pogi” moves and play at least decent basketball.
It’s a big win for us. But the games are just starting and they just need to maintain their focus & please, no more controversies.
Next Destination: NU Bulldogs
