Thanks to the comments...I'm sure, the FEU-Institute of Nursing really appreciate the points they need to consider. Its certain that the misunderstanding here was just brought up by the school spirit that every one possess.

I remember when I received my UPCAT result. I was written there that I didn't make it in the quota of nursing at the UP-Manila campus, instead they refer me to the Diliman and Los Banos Campuses. Even though I still have the chance to enter the most of you says "LEADING UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES" I still chose FEU. Thats it. However, I'm also in favor of those statement that says if there is congestion of students there is also a decrease in the quality of education; BUT THE THING HERE IS, IT IS THE STUDENT THAT DECIDE TO WHERE AND WHAT HE WANTS TO BE AND NOT MERELY THE SCHOOL WHO WILL DRAW HIS FUTURE ENTIRELY. Right?

To the FEU administration, with all you respect...I think there should be a CHANGE in your leadership and management. You guys should now STOP focusing on the PROFIT you are earning...I think this is the time to prove that FEU is consider to be one of the Philippines' leading and well-respected university which I think since 1928 is already the aim of our founder, Dr. Nicanor Reyes. You guys should give your full support to the whole educational community and not just focusing on your AIM TO EARN BIG PROFIT, nevertheless I think it's not a department store nor a financial firm...it is an EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION!

I appreciate the comments and suggestions of students from other school, I just don't want to see comments that are really non-sense and non-factual coming out here.

FEU student ako, and aniintindihan ko 'yong side n'ong sumulat sa bulletin. I agree that there had been a mistake.
To FEU-- upgrade! limit students! walang kuwenta ang battery exam! my god! kulang sa exposure and hands-on experiences! my god talaga! Kung hindi nga lang ako nanghihinayang sa almost three years of stay ko sa feu, malamang nagtransfer na ako.
FEU IN-- it's not all about profits! nagsusuffer na ang quality of education natin! kung ganito ng ganito-- NEVER MAKAKA90% above ang FEU-IN! FOR SURE!!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_and_university_rankings

"However, the Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings have been criticised by many more[23] for placing too much emphasis on peer review, which receives 40 per cent of the overall score. Some people have expressed concern about the manner in which the peer review has been carried out.[24] In a report,[25] Peter Wills from the University of Auckland, New Zealand wrote of the Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings:

    “But we note also that this survey establishes its rankings by appealing to university staff, even offering financial enticements to participate (see Appendix II). Staff are likely to feel it is in their greatest interest to rank their own institution more highly than others. This means the results of the survey and any apparent change in ranking are highly questionable, and that a high ranking has no real intrinsic value in any case. We are vehemently opposed to the evaluation of the University according to the outcome of such PR competitions.”

Some errors have also been reported in the faculty-student ratio used in the ranking. At the 16th Annual New Zealand International Education Conference held at Christchurch, New Zealand in August 2007, Simon Marginson presented a paper[26] that outlines the fundamental flaws underlying the Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings. A similar article[27] (also published by the same author) appeared in The Australian newspaper in December 2006. Some of the points mentioned include:

    “Half of the THES index is comprised by existing reputation: 40 per cent by a reputational survey of academics (‘peer review’), and another 10 per cent determined by a survey of 'global employers'. The THES index is too easily open to manipulation as it is not specified who is surveyed or what questions are asked. By changing the recipients of the surveys, or the way the survey results are factored in, the results can be shifted markedly.

       1. The pool of responses is heavily weighted in favour of academic 'peers' from nations where The Times (sic) is well-known, such as the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and so on.
       2. It’s good when people say nice things about you, but if it is better when those things are true. It is hard to resist the temptation to use the THES rankings in institutional marketing, but it would be a serious strategic error to assume that they are soundly based.
       3. Results have been highly volatile. There have been many sharp rises and falls, especially in the second half of the THES top 200 where small differences in metrics can generate large rankings effects. Fudan in China has oscillated between 72 and 195, RMIT in Australia between 55 and 146. In the US, Emory has risen from 173 to 56 and Purdue fell from 59 to 127.”

kaya pala highly doubtful din ang THE – QS World University Rankings eh. masyado nilang binibigyan ng emphasis ang peer review.

"even offering financial enticements to participate"

http://www.educationsector.org/usr_doc/CollegeRankingsReformed.pdf

"An analysis of the latest U.S. News and World Report
college rankings shows that university scores are, directly or
indirectly, almost entirely a function of three factors: fame,
wealth, and exclusivity."

"Thirty percent of the rankings are based directly or indirectly
on wealth. Direct measures include spending per student;
indirect measures include faculty salaries, class size, faculty
credentials, and other things that cost money to buy."

That leaves five percent for the one real quality measure in
the mix—the difference between an institution’s statistically
predicted graduation rate, based on SAT scores and other
factors, and it’s actual graduation rate. Five percent for the
only measure that speaks to how well institutions work
to help their students succeed. And that measure is used
only for national universities and liberal arts colleges—for
master’s granting universities and comprehensive colleges,
U.S. News uses no quality measure at all.

Hahaha. Kaya pala ganun ang ranking nila. Hahahaha. Now I knew the reason behind those rankings. Hahahaha

I came across this page when I was searching in the internet for top nursing schools in 2009 or 2010. I was shocked to read some of those comments regarding who's the better school, etc.

Nevertheless, I'm not questioning who's the top and who's number 2, binebase kasi sa category yan at sineseparate nila ang 1000+ takers, 100-999 takers at 10-99 takers. Congrats to FEU, St. Paul University Iloili, University of the Philippines Manila, Negros Oriental State Dumaguete, and Bukidnon State College for topping the list in 1000 and up takers, 100-999 takers and 10-99 takers respectively. I can see that because I was once a journalist, myself.

I am not from FEU and I am not from UP also. Forgive me for saying this, but the one who commented about insisting that "TAMA ang nakalagay sa manila bulletin na TOP NURSING ang FEU..ang MALI eh hindi nilagay yung category…". My goodness. It just shows you really did NOT understand the letter. Freshen up! A high school student should NOT have any trouble understanding the letter with just simple english grammar used. Sorry.

And to the person who wrote the letter, I understand your point in posting it to this tambayan. The main reason why you posted it is because you want to disseminate the information to everyone. But the thing is, na high blood ka ata sa pinagsasabi ng taga FEU. Wag ganun. UP student ka. Sabi mo nga "UP You know your intellect, and you know their intellect. HIndi mo sila kalebel. Do not stoop to their low level by answering stupid questions like that.

"So ano pala ang reaction mo sa latest issue ng QS 2010 result ng top 200 University in asia where ATENEO outranked U.P…?…"
Buti hindi mo na sinagot yan. Pero ako, sasagutin ko. I know that UP is obviouly the number one school in the Philippines. And Ateneo outranking UP is the data obtained from the ranking of the world universities. I saw the data. #58 ang Ateneo, #78 ang UP.

Ito yung criteria nila:
    * Arts and humanities
    * Life sciences & biomedicine
    * Natural sciences
    * Social sciences
    * IT & Engineering

Academic Criteria

    * Academic peer review
    * Recruiter review
    * Student/faculty ratio
    * Citations per paper
    * International faculty review
    * International students review
    * Student exchange inbound
    * Student exchange outbound

Methodology 2010

    * Context & overview
    * Asian vs world rankings
    * Academic peer review
    * Recruiter review
    * Student/faculty ratio
    * Bibliometrics
    * International factors
    * Definitions & data collection

"The universities were ranked based on relevant criteria, which include Peer Academic Review, Recruiter Review, International Faculty Ratio, International Student Ratio, Student Faculty Ratio, and Citations per Faculty, said Quacquarelli."

Previous rankings

The 2008 World University Top 500 rankings, also conducted by THE-QS, raised eyebrows after Ateneo de Manila University led the Philippine universities in the top 500 list by placing 254th, edging out UP which ranked 276th.

De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas ranked 415th and 470th, respectively.

"UP officials doubted the survey's credibility since the organizers refused to disclose where it acquired the data used, making the methodology "problematic."

They also revealed the "business side" of the survey where QS sells its various services in order to help universities improve rankings. (AH/Sunnex)"

SOURCE:http://67.225.139.201/manila/ched-rank-colleges-universities-rp

Dun nila ibinase yun. So what if Ateneo outranked UP? It doens't change the IMAGE and REPUTATION of UP as the best university in the country. It doesn't mean that mas magaling ateneo kesa UP. Sa ranking nga ng CHED

http://www.prcboardexams.com/2009/08/top-philippine-universities-2009/

University of the Philippines Diliman ang nanguna. They based their ranking on the BOARD EXAM passers of each school.

"We do not have to prove over and over again that UP is the best. Because there is nothing to prove."

Alam na ng lahat ng tao na UP is the premiere university in the country where there is academic excellence and outstanding achievers ang mga students. Right?

Yun lang, ang haba na nito. Good luck.

“So ano pala ang reaction mo sa latest issue ng QS 2010 result ng top 200 University in asia where ATENEO outranked U.P…?…”

* Arts and humanities
* Life sciences & biomedicine
* Natural sciences
* Social sciences
* IT & Engineering

Academic Criteria

    * Academic peer review
* Recruiter review
* Student/faculty ratio
* Citations per paper
* International faculty review
* International students review
* Student exchange inbound
* Student exchange outbound

Methodology 2010

    * Context & overview
* Asian vs world rankings
* Academic peer review
* Recruiter review
* Student/faculty ratio
* Bibliometrics
* International factors
* Definitions & data collection

“The universities were ranked based on relevant criteria, which include Peer Academic Review, Recruiter Review, International Faculty Ratio, International Student Ratio, Student Faculty Ratio, and Citations per Faculty, said Quacquarelli.”

“UP officials doubted the survey’s credibility since the organizers refused to disclose where it acquired the data used, making the methodology “problematic.”

They also revealed the “business side” of the survey where QS sells its various services in order to help universities improve rankings. (AH/Sunnex)”

SOURCE:http://67.225.139.201/manila/ched-rank-colleges-universities-rp

Dun nila ibinase yun. So what if Ateneo outranked UP? It doens’t change the IMAGE and REPUTATION of UP as the best university in the country. It doesn’t mean that mas magaling ateneo kesa UP. Sa ranking nga ng CHED

http://www.prcboardexams.com/2009/08/top-philippine-universities-2009/

University of the Philippines Diliman ang nanguna. They based their ranking on the BOARD EXAM passers of each school.

“We do not have to prove over and over again that UP is the best. Because there is nothing to prove.”

Alam na ng lahat ng tao na UP is the premiere university in the country where there is academic excellence and outstanding achievers ang mga students. Right?

Yun lang, ang haba na nito. Good luck.
