An Open Letter to Pipo
September 25th, 2009 by A Les LupisanThis was supposed to be a part of a post I was writing about FEU’s last game of the 2009 Season. But after last night’s one on one, I think this excerpt deserves some alone time as well. Here’s to you, Pipo:
Pipo (yep, I’m addressing you specifically),
I know it all sucks right now. I know to a certain degree that the competitive fire that’s been burning inside you has been dampened by this lost. You wanted to kick Ateneo’s ass. You wanted to get back at them for the two losses this season. And you wanted to get your chance to show them what a motivated baller like yourself can inflict on their big men—especially when you were able to play only one game against them this season. Again, I understand it all sucks right now, and I know that these words of mine won’t lessen the bittersweet taste left by that stinking defeat. These words aren’t meant to make you feel better, too.
They just need to be spoken (written): Get back in the gym. Get better. You will still have your chance. Granted it would have tasted better this year considering it’s your rookie season after toiling for two years, but this loss will only make winning it all next time taste a lot better. For how can you tell the difference between winning and losing if you have not tasted any or both of them—to the extreme? Trust me, when you pop that champagne bottle next year, you will remember the day UE beat you and the fans still standing by you, saluting you for your hard work and showering you with love—even in defeat. This is not the end, man. This is just the beginning. You, RR, Aldrech, JR. You guys can lead this team. You can. You should. Would you? See you next year? You don’t have to answer now, my man. Wallow in despair for now. The world shall understand. The loyal Tamaraws shall understand. I will understand. I am but one, but aren’t the FEU fans as well? We’ve got your back. We want you back.
Yours truly,
Les (Ian’s friend, the bald guy with the goatee)
