6: Ikatlong Kabanata – Ang Dagang Costa at Ang Ingliserong Estranghero

Ikatlong Kabanata – Ang Dagang Costa at Ang Ingliserong Estranghero

Safe kayang kumain dito?

“Tara! ‘Wag kang mag-alala malinis ang pagkain dito. I should know.

I mean, what are the odds of meeting a female gangster in a bus?

Exactly. Mukha man akong tomboy, babae pa rin ako.”

    I scoffed. “Whatever.”

“Adobong… kabayo? Literal na kabayo ba ‘to?”

“Ay, hinde, kuya. Baboy.” She was mocking me.

“Kalderetang aso? They serve dogs here?”

    “Try mo ‘yun! Malinamnam!”

Yeah, wait a second I want to puke.”

“Tsaka pala isang Coke sakto. ‘Yun lang. Salamat!”

“Kayo po, Sir?” Tanong sa ‘kin ng serbedora.

“A-ano ‘yung dagang costa?” Tanong ko kay Sky blue Girl.

    “’Yung dagang puti,” sagot niya.

What? Do I have dirt on my face? You’re the one who looks horrible here,” pang-iinis ko.

“You’re very rude, aren’t you?” Sarkastikong tanong niya.

    “I am, so?”

“Man, you have to learn how to respect others. Mayaman ka, ‘no? Taga-Manila ka, ‘no?”

“What do I being a Manileno have to do with this?”

    “Figures.”

    “Aha! PrejudiceStereotyping!”

Kaya hindi umuunlad ‘tong bansang ‘to e. Imperial Manila.

    “Bakit ka galit?”

    “Because you are rude!”

“No! I think I’ve been very kind enough to a stranger like you!”

“You’re equally a stranger to me!”

“Oh yeah? But I’m a kinder stranger, you have to admit that. I held your humongous bag for you for Christ’s sake!”

“I don’t think so. I shared you my earplug for an hour! That isn’t something a stranger would do to you.”

“So, magsusumbatan tayo? Anong point mo? Bakit mo pa ako dinala dito?”

“I just want you to be kinder! Gentler!”

“You don’t expect me to trust you completely, do you?”

“The very moment you let me bring you here makes you trust me completely. Let me guess, you’re a stowaway, am I right? And you hate your family, right?”

“None of your damn business,” I answered calmer.

    “Bull’s eye.”

“You know what, you have been rude enough and I think I need to leave you now,” sinuot ko na ang bag ko at paalis na, “maraming salamat sa isang oras na pagse-share mo sa ‘kin ng earplug mo. And to tell you honestly, I hated your music. My Chemical Romance, eh? Sorry, I’m not a rock person. Bye.”

    “You’re not going anywhere, Daniel.”

Natigilan ako. Napatingin ako sa kanya, more suspicious than ever.

“Pa’no mo nalaman ang pangalan ko?”

“I went through your bag while you were sleeping and I have your wallet with all your money and credit cards in it. I have your iPod, and your cellphone.

Putangina. Sabi ko na nga ba. Hindi dapat pagkatiwalaan itong taong ‘to.

“How… how dare you.”

“Gotcha. How does it feel to be caught off guard?”

    “You… betrayed…”

“I didn’t betray you. Ikaw na nga ang nagsabi, I’m just a stranger. We’re betrayed only by those who are close to us.”

    The tables have turned.
